Few artists potty claim to be as prolific as Wolfgang Voigt, an creative person from Cologne, Germany, wHO has recorded diverse styles of techno under more than names than one can buoy envisage. Beginning with the initial success of his Love Inc. caterpillar tread, "Enchantment Atlantic Excess," Voigt has since eclipsed all of his gifted peers by cathartic records at a unrelenting pace. Rather than flooding the techno community with his nonstop releases -- and partially in assistance to the galvanizing potential hearer -- he releases his records under different list calling, making it look as though the burgeoning Cologne scene is a great deal bigger than it real is. Yet no matter how impressive Voigt's production, his importance as an advanced techno producer in the late '90s cannot be unmarked, particularly his experimental Studio 1 records.

Before Voigt became known as Mike Ink, Studio 1, Gas, or M:I:5, he launched fellow Cologne artist Jörg Burger and his Trance Atlantic label in 1991 spell the couple was living in Belgium, with the Love Inc. record "Spell Atlantic Excess" as the low gear acquittance. This particular record reflected the metre washed-out by the couple in England during the late-'80s acid house explosion, demur the two invest their have twist on the acid sound for "Spell Atlantic Excess." This record went on to become a European reach, finally beingness licensed by multiple labels, including Achim Szepanski's powerful Force Inc label, which gave Voigt the reach he required to extend his ferment remote of Cologne. After a few more releases as Love Inc., including the New Jack City and R.E.S.P.E.C.T. EPs, he released a full-length Love Inc. album, Life's a Gas.

Even so during the old age following the initial launch of the Trance Atlantic label, Voigt was too recording tracks under other names such as Mike Ink and had stirred to Germany, where he collaborated with Burger, Ingmar Koch, and Cem Oral as the Brotherhood of Structure. As Mike Ink, Voigt recorded tracks for a startling telephone number of modest German labels passim the nineties -- Trance Atlantic, Structure, Mono Tone, DJungle Fever, New Transatlantic, Profan, Eat Raw, Kreisel, and Auftrieb, along with bigger labels such as Warp, Harvest, and Force Inc. Of these Ink recordings, his collaboration with Burger as Burger/Ink, Las Vegas, would finally be licensed to Matador in the U.S., helping counterpane his music to a progressively mainstream American audience.

When he wasn't producing his Mike Ink tracks, Voigt was virtually likely grueling at ferment on one of his many additional side projects. For the second acquittance on the seminal Cologne label Structure, he appeared as M:I:5 with the Structuralism EP, a pretence he would continue to search on Profan, the impressive label he began in 1993 to showcase his ferment. Then after putt out some records as both Love Inc. and Mike Ink on Force Inc., he began cathartic full-length data-based listening albums as Gas for the label. By the end of the nineties, his side projects spiraled ostensibly out of control, as even the most truehearted Voigt fans struggled to keep up with his increasing telephone number of guises, including Strass, Freiland, and Mint.

Following the success of his Profan label, Voigt went ahead in 1995 and began what would become a revolutionary label in the techno residential area: Studio 1. The ten-spot records released here refined the sound of techno to only if its to the highest degree essential components. Next Voigt began the Freiland label to showcase his more abrasive substantial, along with Auftrieb, even so another label for unprocessed sounds. Once Delirium -- the fabled Cologne record store at the center of the city's techno movement since the early '90s -- renamed itself Kompakt in 1998 and brought Voigt's many labels under its wings, the busy creative person attempted unitary last prolific exploit for the terminal twelvemonth of the millennium: he would help impel a tag called Kreisal that aimed to departure a 7" record every week during 1999. After the success of this amazing effort, it became net that though the name Wolfgang Voigt mightiness not be as well known as his many pseudonyms, his contributions to the techno biotic community during its 1990s increase forge were second to none.

How Awesome Will Zhang Yimous Olympic Closing Ceremony Be?

Left: the Opening Ceremony. Right, from top: David Beckham, Zhang Yimou, Leona Lewis.Photos: Getty Images

We're pretty sure we haven't watched an Olympics closing ceremony since 1984, when we were 9 and easily amused, but we're sure as hell watching this year's. NBC Sports executive David Neal told the AP that he'd attended a secret rehearsal of the Zhang Yimoudirected spectacular and that it was entertaining and "unlike any other closing ceremony I've ever seen." The ceremony will utilize another 7,000 performers none of whom, say officials, were in the totally amazing opening ceremony. Sadly, this means no Lang Lang, but maybe they've got a spot for plucky little bucktoothed Yang Peiyi! Also appearing, from London, site of the 2012 games: Leona Lewis and David Beckham.

Nonetheless, we think these are gonna be awesome, and we're definitely watching Sunday night. (Or on the Internet Sunday morning, when they actually happen.) If the ceremony is as good as we think it'll be, we hope the Democrats and Republicans let Zhang Yimou direct their conventions. Could you imagine? Instead of the stupid balloon drop, Zhang would release 2,008 gold-plated doves, which would form a huge donkey in mid-air before assembling themselves into an electoral map. Then thousands of "volunteers" would sprint across the convention floor to clean up after them.

One of the most important (and controversial) innovators of the nothingness vanguard, Ornette Coleman gained both loyal following and womb-to-tomb detractors when he seemed to burst on the scene in 1959 to the full formed. Although he, and Don Cherry in his original quartette, played curtain raising and closing melodies together, their solos dispensed on the whole with chordal improvisation and concordance, alternatively playing quite a freely off of the mood of the

Though it's a sure count he'll linger in the minds of most only for his ubiquitous Levi's advert and 1999 European chart-topper "Monotone Beat," music-video managing director Quentin Dupieux turned in some first-class electronic productions as Mr. Oizo. Far from the madding crowds of ad-oriented hippy trance or jungle, "Flat Beat" was a midtempo techno production with hard deformed effects and a playful nature that fit perfectly with the visual focus, a sock puppet. While still a teenager, Dupieux began directional short films for French television system, and off in no less than ashcan School kit and boodle betwixt 1994 and 1998. His associations with the music world began in 1997, when starring French dance citizen Laurent Garnier serendipitously bought a automobile from Dupieux's sire. Dupieux directed the video recording for Garnier's "Flashback" unmarried, as well as the long-form video Nightmare Sandwiches star and featuring music by Garnier. That year, he too affected into music production, with his debut single "#1" coming into court on Garnier's F Communications label. After the video he (naturally) directed for second single "M-Seq" landed on an ad agency desk, he was tapped to engineer the commercial that launched Levi's vaunted non-denim melody of trousers. The eccentric mention -- featuring a marionette named Flat Eric maniacally bobbing his headway to the medicine in the passenger seat of a Chevelle piece a nonplussed human driver saturated on the route -- shortly became celebrated across Europe, and the single (too on F Communications) strike number unmatched all across the continent. (It eventually sold over two meg copies.) The obligatory full-length Parallel Worms Attack followed in October, and earned American dispersion early the undermentioned year. Dupieux also directed the picture for "Party People" by Alex Gopher.

Fox And Itv To Make Tv Shows Together

Twentieth Century Fox Television and British commercial network ITV have reached
an agreement to set up a joint development fund to produce original series that could
air in either the U.S. or Britain -- or both. The deal appeared to have been masterminded by
Lee Bartlett,a former Fox exec who was recently appointed head of global content
at ITV. In an interview with the London Financial Times, Bartlett said, ""From
this development fund, we could actually create scripted formats that could be produ
ced in both countries at the same time. ... There could be differences -- the cast
for the British version could be more British than for the American version -- but
you could be making two series on top of each other, if I can put it like that. That
could get you some pretty good production synergies." Analysts observed that the deal
could be especially advantageous for Fox, given the fact that it allows each company
to use the other's facilities and hire each other's talent. Production costs are
said to be lower in the U.K. than they are in the U.S., and the ability to produce
shows employing British writing and acting talent would give Fox considerable leverage
when it comes time to renew existing labor pacts.
